Green sky o'er a forgotten battlefield: The ground is stained red with old blood we spilled. Fury builds in the clouds and will not yield, Chasing the wind after love unfulfilled. Battered and bruised but still running after A force of nature that will not halt. Only sounds my maniacal laughter And the crash of your thunderous assault. I pray that you will someday turn towards me, Though it will mean the end of what I know. I will have to decide to stay or flee And live with regret either way I go. Until either stumbles and loses pace, I'll continue to love you and the chase. |

A lot of stuff here is friends-locked, because it posts that way by default, since I'm actually posting to a WordPress blog that cross-posts here. I should probably change that. |

---------- This guild was a triumph! I'm making a note here: "HUGE SUCCESS!!"
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
Leading a guild: I did what I must because who would?
For the good of all of us. Except the ones who EBay'd.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake. And the raiding gets done. And you loot a neat gun for the people who are still in PIE.
I'm not even angry... I'm being so sincere right now- Even though you broke my shacks, and killed me.
And mobs tore me to pieces. And feared every piece into void pools. As they ticked it hurt because I was so happy for you!
Now, this theorycraft data makes a beautiful line. And we're out of Kara. We're in Gruul's Lair on time! Even though I got burned out- Think of all we learned about- for the people who are still in PIE.
Go ahead and leave me... I think I prefer to stay alone... Maybe I'll find someone else to raid with? Maybe with DOOM? That was a joke! HAHA!! FAT CHANCE!!
Anyway this cake is great! It's so delicious and moist!
Look at me: still talking when there's farming to do! When I look out there, it makes me so proud of you.
You've new instances to run. There is healing to be done. For the people who are still in PIE. And believe me I am still in PIE. I'm playing alts and I am still in PIE. I feel fantastic and I'm still in PIE. While you're dying I'll be still in PIE. And when you're dead I will be still in PIE.
Still in PIE.
Rezzing you. |

you are gold #FFD700 | Your dominant hues are red and green, so you're definately not afraid to get in and stir things up. You have no time for most people's concerns, you'd rather analyze with your head than be held back by some random "gut feeling".
Your saturation level is very high - you are all about getting things done. The world may think you work too hard but you have a lot to show for it, and it keeps you going. You shouldn't be afraid to lead people, because if you're doing it, it'll be done right.
Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

This is a sonnet about my guildmate Olu's eyebrows:
Blackened Nemesis horns adorn your face, Sculpted and pointed talismans of death. I find myself rooted into one place, Transfixed, staring up and gasping for breath.
For those demon sculptures upon your brow, Blacker than your heart (no longer beating), Have caused me to forever disavow Other hair-lined ridges since our meeting.
For your eyebrows are masters of the dark And hold a power that's beyond compare To overshadow other facial marks And call rains of fire on rivals' hair.
Should ever something cause you to be slain, Your glorious eyebrows will remain. |

| I need something clever (and short) to write on the spacebar... |
[Sep. 25th, 2007|04:50 am] |
So, I have a project.
Yes, another one.
I have finally completely embraced the side of me that began with the first glimpse of the Goggle Girl at a Nocture night about, oh, 4 years ago. The side that built on my apparent destiny to be a mechanic. The side of me that loves to play with tools. The side that loves to paint and design and stretch the limits of my creativity.
Now that I've built this up far too much, I'm basically just modding my keyboard.
Inspired by the massive influx of steampunk into my recent life, I've taken apart my old Dell keyboard and spent the better part of the night with a hot-knife tool (essentially a heated x-acto knife; made for foamcore but works wonders on low-quality plastic such as what Dell uses) cutting out the bases of the keys and cutting the caps off the posts. I'm still not done with the cutting, but after a while my hands were starting to resemble a chimney-sweep's, and I hadn't even broken out the paint yet.
Tools/supplies used so far: -One ancient Dell keyboard from my college freshman year; -Philip-head screwdriver for disassembling the keyboard bits from the plastic casing; -flat-head screwdriver for popping the keycaps off; -hot-knife for melting plastic into submission; -one 11"x17" (or thereabouts) sheet of 3mm-thick plywood onto which the keyboard layout & design concept were sketched; -one slightly busted mechanical pencil to actually draw with; -set of pliers (for twisiting stubborn bits of plastic, re-tightening the knife blade, and scraping melted plastic off the knife blade); -one hour-hand from a clock to, well, mark where it's going to go; and -the entire discography of Blackmore's Night.
Tools/supplies projected for use: -small battery-powered clock, to set in the new casing; -another piece of the aforementioned plywood, because a keyboard doesn't just have one side; -wood stain/finish; -100+ small wooden "buttons"; -black paint; -gold paint; -white paint (I think... for the clock face. Still not sure of the final design for that); -paintbrushes of varying uses and widths; -lots of glue; -some kind of saw thing because x-acto knives, even hot ones, don't so much cut wood as they cut Cassies and burn carpets; -sandpaper; -cardstock (because I have a rounded part in the design that I cannot bend wood to, so I'm going to fake it as it won't likely be seen); -something to beat sense into myself with when this is over, because silly me is going to try NaNoWriMo again this year, and I'd better have a working keyboard, dammit!
I'm taking pics as I go along. I'll post them all when I'm done. |

| Strange Dreams |
[Sep. 23rd, 2007|03:29 pm] |
Last two nights, I've had two dreams with images that really stuck with me.
The first I can only call "grey". I don't remember why I was there, but I was in some bedraggled town where everything was just... washed out. There was no sun, only an endless grey sky. It was rocky... and in the middle of some kind of archipelago, I think, because there were a lot of tall rocks/mountains jutting out of the water everywhere. Then we were attacked by... a witch? Best way to describe it, I suppose. A wicked witch! There was a glorious battle, twirling high up into the air. We won, of course ;-) But not without losses... Those that remained piled into a boat, and set sail to search for the sun. That's where the dream ended.
Last night's dream was overly complex and I can't remember most of it. But there was one part that I remember very clearly. We were out in the desert, a whole civilization of us... And there were women clothed in white, dancers. I was one of them. The dance we were going to do was some kind of ritual. We danced, and danced, and kept dancing on the dunes until the wind and sand shredded us all. But I reformed, with something in my hand. And there was a voice in my head that said, very clearly, "The others danced and were consumed by sorrow. You danced for joy, and were thus not consumed." This thing - a little jade building, I think - was very important. I stumbled over to Wesley and collapsed, one arm around him and the other clutching this artifact. "It's ours now," I said to him. There were other parts, too: a gunslinger chasing us; reading the diary of one of the dancers who was, oddly, describing dreams she was having that she was going to peel away and also telling more of the gunslinger; and an old, broken-down house.
I find it interesting that one night I dream of a cold, grey, watery landscape, and the next I dream of the hot, bright, dry desert. If nothing else, these dreams should serve as plot bunnies for NaNoWriMo (which I note from my e-mail is coming up soon!) |

Computer Engineer (originally what I went to school for...) 8. Computer Support Person (what I do these days...) 9. | On: Downranking |
[Jul. 31st, 2007|12:11 pm] |
(repeated here from the wow_ladies community)
After reading the recent post by daenarys, I noticed in the comments many people where confused by the changes to downranking. I don't blame you. It's weird. But while it has suffered a slight nerf, this does *not* mean it is "next to worthless." Let's face it, if everything in this game that got nerfed became next to worthless, there'd be nothing left to use except Cloak of Shadows ;-)
Here's how it works. The amount of +healing applies to the spell is multiplied by this ratio to determine the actual effect: ((Level at which next higher rank of Spell is Learned) + 5) / (Player's Level)) = Penalty
I'm going to do some examples here. ( This is not for those faint of heart when it comes to math ;-) )
Now, why downrank? As we've seen it's more mana efficient, which is important. But the overall healing is, of course, reduced. Well, many times, you just don't need to heal that much. Also, if you have decent in-combat regen, you might get back a lot of the cost of a spell by the time you're done casting. For instance, you could chain-cast GHeal 3 on the tank and last a lot longer than waiting for her to be at half health and hitting GHeal 7 (you have Meditation and a lot of mp5 gear, right?). Also, if you let people get too low before casting heals, you run the risk of two crits or crushing blows landing rapidly, and BAM, dead player. Sometimes, Renew isn't fast enough, but Flash Heal will run you OOM before you can say "hopscotch" (and draw more aggro to boot).
I hope this has shed some light on the situation. Do the numbers for yourself, with your own gear, talents, and of course class-specific spells. You'll find that sweet spot where you just become one with the healing spells, everything slows down, and you're casting in a trance not realizing the fight is over until someone starts yelling on Vent that no rogues better be rolling on that sword... Or maybe that's just me >.> |
